Don:

My best advice is education for our REALTORS. Help them become more curious about the statistics and reports they see and hear, and engaging their critical thought processes. When they start looking deeper into these prognostications they may be surprised to find a "silver lining" in that cloud.

But they should also become students of their markets, gaining an intimate understanding of what's happening in their own backyards. Those that understand the local market are poised to move in that market, potentially benefiting from trends that are on the upswing. They say that "knowledge is power," and in real estate the most powerful tool in our arsenal is market knowledge.

Thanks for your comment!

Hank:

Looking forward to TriplePlay as well. It's been a few years, and I always have such a great time there!

Thanks for your comments. Education is certainly the key for real estate professionals in this "new" arena. I know PAR is doing a great job at educating its membership on the proper use of online advertising and promotion, and I'm confident your efforts are paying dividends for agents and brokers as they venture out into the online social universe.

Thanks again!

Great points, Brad. Seems like many agents think "the rules" don't apply when they're trying to communicate online (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), but they do. Some states, and the NAR Code of Ethics, actually have MORE rules for online activity than they do for print or in-person advertising. A good reason to actually learn what the rules are before running off and slapping some text into a template some place.

Looking forward to your sessions at the TriplePlay convention in December.
